Covid Alert:
Over the course of this week, Doctors are reporting a spike in comfirmed Covid cases. Our hospital test positivity rate has risen from below 2% to above 6%. Our Physicians are reporting infections among both the unvaccinated and the fully vaccinated, mainly those who took their second vaccine over six months ago. Admissions to the Covid hospital are rising, though the numbers remain low. Samples have been sent for genomic testing to rule out the Omicron variant and the results are expected next week.
It is still early but these figures indicate that we may be headed for another Covid storm, possibly early in the new year. The Hospital positivity rates rise earlier and faster than the national aggregate rate (mainly because hospitals test the sick and those travelling more). It will probably take several weeks before the national figures can approach 10% covid storm threshold.
As we head into the holidays, the need to exercise caution remains. Large boisterous gatherings, common over the holiday season, are known Covid superspreaders. Avoid crowds, closed spaces and close contacts. The surging cases in Europe, North America and other highly vaccinated nations are indicative that we are headed into another year under this pandemic.
