  • A plane delivering motorsport materials and kits is stuck in Kenya's coastal city of Mombasa after developing technical problems.
  • The plane - which was making a trip from Lombok to Tucuman to deliver the Argentina GP materials - suffered a malfunction, forcing the authorities to divert it to Mombasa.

The Argentina GP is scheduled for the weekend and the materials are supposed to have arrived to ensure maximum preparations.

Due to lack of an immediate alternative, the materials - which include motorcycles - are set to reach Argentina on Wednesday or Thursday afternoon.

The delay has a significant effect on the motorsport event as most athletes missed the first day of their practice.According to news outlets, the mechanical problems are workable but there is a possibility of even more unexpected problems. This means that the Argentina GP is not yet free from all the risk and may suffer more serious impact should the delay be longer. "At the moment there is a risk that some teams will not be able to take part in the free practice sessions on Friday, since the forecast is to land in Tucumán at noon, and from there to Termas it is about 80kms, and other delays such as customs formalities, shipment by truck are expected," the event organisers informed the participants.
  • The suppliers of the materials and other necessities were informed of the delays.

Kenya serves as a transit point for different countries including most East African countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and Burundi.
On September 18, 2021, a plane belonging to Poland Air and that had taken off from the Moi International Airport, Mombasa was forced to make an emergency landing at the Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The plane - with 167 passengers on board - was forced to land after one of its engines started giving false readings.
The Polish government, however, moved with speed to rescue the stranded passengers.
