Famed Kenyan night runner Jack Songo(born Moses Okinyi) has demanded to sit his KCSE(Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education) exams at night.Songo, who made headlines in 2015 after he claimed to have founded a national lobby to safeguard the interests of night runners in the country, has threatened to sue the government if his demand is not met. “I demand to sit exams at night. An expert night runner does not see well during the day. He sees clearly at night,” he said.

The Homa Bay resident sat his KCSE in 2019 and got a C- but claims he would have performed better had he been allowed to sit the papers at night since “I am a nocturnal person.” Songo says he has enrolled to sit KCSE again next month. He claims he is at his most creative and productive at night and not in broad daylight.“If (Education Minister)Magoha and (exams governing body)KNEC do not allow me to sit the papers at night, we will meet in court. I must go to court to sue Knec,Magoha,” the night runner declared.

Speaking to journalists in Ndhiwa Sub-county last week, Songo also faulted Magoha for failing to ensure he attends physical education classes under the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to improve his acrobatic skills. He further criticised the Department of Social Services for failing to register his Nightrunners Association. He argued under the 2010 Constitution, the government is under obligation to recognize everyone’s unique contribution to nation-building. Among his demands is that the Nightrunners Association be allowed to register as a society and be given unrestricted access to the National Youth Fund alongside other public funds in the form of loans or grants

Obesity is increasingly turning into a health crisis among many Kenyans. Night running not only improves physical and mental health but also preserves an important cultural aspect of certain tribes.

Really @Aviator?
Granted, running naked at night with men’s joysticks swinging like unhinged pendulums from side to side can be very disconcerting and astonishing.
But isn’t it true that practising witchcraft is not a crime or even a tort in Kenya?

Shouldn’t we then leave people to engage in whatever floats their boats and concentrate our efforts to curbing those behaviours that hurt others?

Wow! Indeed. I stand corrected Sir. Guilty as charged.
Was thinking with the UK’s mindset and constitution which outlawed the hunting and execution of witches in 1951. The Witchcraft Act of 1735 had however been inactive for over 200 years and it was only in the 1800s that over 150 witches had been executed.

Having said that @Aviator, don’t you think that this is a dead law as no one has ever been convicted in Kenyan Court on this law.
I am aware a few old women have been lynched on suspicion of being witches but that is outside the judicial sanctions.

@Tiiga Waana
Ata Sijui ume ongea nini leo ?
Night runners are terrorists with expertise on psychological night warfare.
Communities would welcome their extinction. They add no positive value to any culture.

If I recall correctly, there have been several people tried for practicing witchcraft. I don't know the outcome of the trials, but if it is proved beyond reasonable doubt that a suspect is a real witch, then any sane magistrate would not dare jail them for fear of being bewitched.
Thus, the lynching option remains the only effective way of getting rid of them witches.

Any person who holds himself out as a witchdoctor able to cause fear, annoyance or injury to another in mind, person or property, or who pretends to exercise any kind of supernatural power, witchcraft, sorcery or enchantment calculated to cause such fear, annoyance or injury, shall be guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

It could be argued that, that is a religion! Kama anakimbia at least kama amevaa kinyasa, then even arguing indecent exposure could become a tall order.

Those guys run and knock at doors.
That in itself causes fear and annoyance.

And yes. You can add pastors to that Whatsapp group.
