Kibaki would be sacked as VP the following month.

Held during Kenya’s single party rule, the Molongo elections were on paper designed to “bring about transparency” in polls but, in fact, were intended to weed out a crop of leaders - Kibaki among them, that were unwanted by the top leadership of the ruling party KANU.
