MCSK increases royalties from Sh2500 to Sh400,000

Music Copyright Society of Kenya, whose main function is to collect royalties in public performance and mechanical reproduction on behalf of artistes in Kenya has increased royalties from Sh2500 to Sh400,000 per artiste.

Last year, MCSK was a topic of discussion after some Kenyan received as low as Sh25 for their royalties, Khaligraph Jones and King Kaka posted their Mpesa messages on their social media pages showing the amount they received from MCSK after spending millions to shoot a video and promote their music. Both Khaligraph Jones and King Kaka received Sh2500 and they were not happy about it.

MCSK defended themselves by tweeting that they had received money from broadcasters adding that Kenyan music receives little airplay. Artiste later campaigned for #PlayKeMusic. It seems their efforts are now paying because MCSK has received a lot this year hence the increment

They want to do everything right this year and are not ready for meems and songs that will mock them for the rest of 2020.

Artistes can now breathe since their bank accounts are about to get fat, wafungue saccoo sasa! I hope the artistes will take to social media and congratulate MCSK, or should they wait for their cheques first? Time will tell.

Unrealistic! Where will the funds come from? Hii kitu should be categorized.... Don't know how, but you can't put sautisol or Nyanshinki with Okiyas mukurino.
There also so many upcoming artists or artists who've not dropped songs in ages but their songs still play......
