There was awe and horror here at the Sanate last week when after about 2 days of outage, Kenya Talk rebranded to KT and unveiled a new user interface based on the Discourse® platform.
On the site itself, users were required to register change their passwords to access content with the emails used in the previous Xenforo platform. This created a lot of problems as users were denied access even when using the previous usernames. A good number had to sign up a fresh so as to be able to contact the administrator and try to restore their previous accounts.
At first i concede that it was almost impossible to get used to the infinite scroll pages. But slowly by slowly, users are getting used to the new interface and kinda like it. Unlike the previous one that would cause curiosity to onlookers when waiting at the bank lobby this one has a KT icon on top of the screen and that's all. Besides, what i like most about the UI is that it's customizable to a fault. I was able to choose the size of my font (so when at the bank no one will peep), also made new posts to appear on the home page and so i will not have to tap on the lightening sign to see them. The interface is also very beautiful. Confusion is disappearing and users are getting used to the features on the new home. I am sure that more stuff will be discovered as we proceed.
This is encouraging for Kenyanlist admin incase he wants to leap to the open source platform, it's not all doom and gloom. It's better in many ways.
