As the peak season for mangoes is almost ending, mango prices are expected to shoot from the current farm price of 6 shillings per fruit to between 10-15 shillings come April. A spot check in a fresh vegetable and fruit market In Nairobi shows that traders are still selling the fruit at a low price for fear of low demand come April to avoid future losses.Currently, a 126-kilogram bag is selling at 2,600 shillings in Nairobi and Mombasa. Since mangoes were harvested in February 2022, there was a decline in the market prices currently at an average of 2,300 shillings across the country.

Although the price of the fruit during the peak season has been below average, many farmers have been able to make a fortune out of it.Mangoes prices usually goes for between 15 – 20 shillings per fruit during the off-season. Some retailers even sell at 40-50 shillings, depending on the size of the fruit and the region. Almost every part of the country produces mangoes, but the arid eastern region has 61 percent of all mangoes, Rift Valley at 30 percent, and Coast produces 28 percent. At the same time, a 57-kilogram bag of Passion Fruits is retailing as follows: 6,600 shillings in Kitale, 5,130 shillings in Nairobi, 5,000 shillings in Mombasa and Nakuru, 4,560 shillings in Eldoret, and 3,000 shillings in Kisumu.

Meanwhile, a 93-kilogram bag of Oranges is sold highest in Nakuru at 5,000 shillings and lowest in Kisumu at 3,000 shillings. The average market price is 3,573 shillings.
