Neega that's what they did to create the causeway thereby interfering with marine life and water flows around Mombasa Island. They have returned it to the original state by building the bridge.

That would have created a causeway that would have interfered with natural flow of water that would have interfered with the water's chemical balance with an adverse effect on marine life.
It is for the same reason that they destroyed the causeway between Mbita Point and Rusinga island and in its place built an overhead bridge.

The project is a typical Uhuru Kenyatta project, underwhelming and..... It started way back in 2015. It is supposed to be completed in 2023 - Makande to Mariakani Weigh Bridge. Upto now, almost 8 years later hata haijafika Miritini.

Constructing a road over the sea, including drilling and sinking pillars in the sea bed, and restoring the ocean ecosystem is not like building your stupid thingira/simba on your red soil kashamba huko kenol. It takes lots of money, time and effort. But your tangatangaring wilbaro brains can't fathom this. Good to see that uhuru has restored the Mombasa marine ecosystem and the rusinga island ecosystem in Lake Victoria by replacing the causeway by a bridge which means fish can migrate to their breeding sites thus increasing Mombasa and Lake Victoria fish outputs. He deserves a Nobel prize.

SGR is hundreds of times more massive than this project. It was definitely hundreds of times more challenging. And it started a year after this project was launched. And by 2017 before the elections we were already using the railway! What about the expressway in Nairobi?
