I have some two acres I acquired sometimes this year huko shags.
I have been mulling over what to do with it.
Sahii I am thinking wacha niweke the cliche, mahindi na maharagwe combi.
What traps should I look out for and how much can I expect kuspend.
In terms of seeds, fertilizer na pesticides, kupalilia na harvest and storage.

Being that:
  • sina Tractor ya kulima, wasee wa Ng'ombe are being big headed....
  • The land borders a river so water won't be an issue hata dry spell ikija.
  • Nishanunua the shelling machine.
  • Transport sio shida, I'll fuel the Dmax I make trips kadhaa...
Which will be easier in terms of selling my produce, if I go at it as a sole farmer ama as a company.

Location of the farm and your produce target market most of the time dictates what you will plant /farm activity

Well given you are near a water source you will need a pump.
Depending on how busy you are you can choose a range of crops that mature anywhere between 2-8 months.
As for market once you plant you start looking for market.
Lastly you are not limited to do maize farming alone you can explore other crops.

In my opinion. If you are not living there right now fence it and plant trees. Since you say you visit frequently you can monitor them. After 15 years the trees will be mature. You can sell the trees as timber and firewood. Or build a log cabin and sell the remaining timber/firewood.

Another thing, you should'nt have bought a shelling machine. It is cheap to hire one. When I was a kid the people hiring the machines used to charge 20 shillings per
bag if you have a lot of maize. So neighbours with small farms used to shell thier maize at the same time to lower costs.

Set up a posho mill and start packaging the flour and sell to wholesalers with the company being the brand name of your flour product.
He shouldn't even think about this.
Licences alone will set him back over 500k. NEMA, KRA, KEBS, Kanjo, etc.
Besides, maize farming isn't really profitable.
I would rather he plants nyanya, melons, fruits etc. Or plant trees and forget about it.
