Had too much time on my hands jana and decided to drive around the upper-middle-class residence that is Kilimani.

Just like Hurlingham and Lavington, the place is slowly but surely mushrooming into an overcrowded residential estate with all manner of offices, massage parlours etc etc

Turning into a glorified paipu!
Thought the same thing too.
There's just too much construction ongoing. At this rate, only Karen, Kitisuru, Gigiri, Muthaiga, Runda and a few more places will remain as truly being exclusive upper class estates

We shall end up being like Joburg. The truly well off will live an hour away from CBD.

Nimeona mahali kumeitwa paipu pro max. This is the future of all estates within 10km radius of the city. Umeona that compound in Pangani that will have 32 x 15flr flats

I agree. Exclusivity means low density (minimum half acre per residence), paved roads, paid for security, proper waste management, proper lighting, water/electricity/internet/gas connectivity etc.

Of all those qualities, only low density cannot be corrected. Once people start building tenements, the estate is no longer exclusive and nothing can be done to correct that. If zoning laws prevent people from building commercial properties and limit one residence to half an acre, every other quality can be introduced e.g roads, security etc.

For someone who lived in this area in the 90s and 2000s.feels strange going back.
It's no longer the leafy suburb.
It's turned into a concrete jungle by the day.
They even have petrol stations and pubs built in residential areas.
So pathetic.
There's no control in the building and zoning sector, everything goes.

Thugs shoot, kill Iraqi national in mobile phone theft in Lavington Nairobi

Gunmen riding on a motorcycle shot and killed an Iraqi national in a robbery of his mobile phone in Nairobi’s Lavington area.

Hanna Mazini Matti, an employee of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), was jogging alone near his residence along Gitanga Road when three gunmen riding on a motorcycle struck on Friday at about 6.30 pm.

Witnesses told police that the gunmen approached the victim and demanded his mobile phone and cash.

The incident happened outside Muthangari Gardens.

He resisted, prompting a brief tussle before he was shot in the right knee.

The gang grabbed his mobile phone and rode off on a motorcycle whose registration numbers had been concealed.

Nairobi deputy police boss James Mugera said the victim bled profusely as he was being rushed to the hospital by a Good Samaritan, who arrived at the scene.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

IOM spokesperson Yvonne Ndege said the deceased had been working with the UN as a finance officer for over a year.

She said he had left his home country with his wife and three children with hopes of helping more refugees only to meet his death in Nairobi.

“He survived his homeland troubles only for him to meet death in Nairobi. It is unfortunate for this to happen to him,” said Ndege.

She added they are working with authorities to arrest those behind the killing.
