Previously we had a working disciplined public transport system, we were assured of a psv vehicle every 15 minutes in urban areas. Nowadays its a mathogothanio of transportation, for your sanity it's better to have a car for your day to day operations.

Not the real reason. You may want to ask around whether there were mitumba cars available for purchase before 1994 or thereabout.
Poor transport system is not a cause but symptom
