The qualifying race for the TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022™ kicks off on Wednesday, October 20 with twenty-one (21) matches scheduled across the continent.

5) Safari Sevens. (30-31 October, Nyayo Stadium)

First played in 1996, the Safari Sevens returns after it’s cancellation in 2020 owing to the Covid-19 pandemic which paralyzed sporting activities globally.
The tournament will take place on 30-31 October 2021 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Kenya Rugby Union will be represented by Shujaa, Kenya Morans- the defending Champions and Kenya Under 20. 2019 National 7s Circuit Champions KCB will also feature in the tournament.
2018 winners Samurai, South Africa Allstars, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Red Wailers, and Nigeria’s Stallion sevens will also be part of the tournament.

“There are a total of 10 confirmations in the men’s competition thus far. They include South Africa All Stars, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Samurai, Red Wailers, Stallion Sevens Nigeria, KCB, Kenya U20, Kenya Shujaa and Kenya Morans,” reads a statement by KRU.

In the women category, Kenya Lionesses will field two teams and will be joined by South Africa select and Zimbabwe.
“There are 4 confirmations in the women’s competition including Zimbabwe, South Africa Select as well as the two Kenya Lionesses squads,” the statement further reads.

“More confirmations and information around the tournament is expected in subsequent communications.’ it concludes.

6) World Athlete of the Year 2021 Nominees


This week marks the opening of the voting process for the 2021 World Athletes of the Year ahead of the World Athletics Awards 2021 to be held in December.

A three-way voting process will determine the finalists.

The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the World Athletics social media platforms. Individual graphics for each nominee will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram this week; a 'like' on Facebook and Instagram or a retweet on Twitter will count as one vote.

The World Athletics Council’s vote will count for 50% of the result, while the World Athletics Family’s votes and the public votes will each count for 25% of the final result.

Voting for the World Athletes of the Year closes at midnight on Saturday 6 November. At the conclusion of the voting process, five women and five men finalists will be announced by World Athletics.
The female and male World Athletes of the Year will be announced live at the World Athletics Awards 2021 in December.

Further information about the World Athletics Awards 2021 will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.

Gor Mahia proceeds after Al Ahyl withdraws from the tournament. (Gor led 3-1 going to the second leg)

The Confederation of African Football has cancelled today's CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round second leg match between Gor Mahia FC and Al Ahly Merowe. The Sudanese team has officially withdrawn from the competition.


3) Women's Africa Cup of Nations

A 7-1 win over South Sudan saw the Harambee Starlets advance to the second round of WAFCON (Women's Africa Cup of Nations) qualification on a 15-1 aggregate score.
