Keg beer Consumers will from next month pay an extra 8 shillings for the product after East African Breweries Limited (EABL) announced that it would raise the price of the product.

The brewer noted that it has been protecting keg consumers from the annual inflation adjustment since 2018, adding that it will no longer absorb the excise tax adjustment for inflation for the product.

“We do see prices of everything changing particularly where taxes are involved. We will look at all different levers and get extra efficiencies but we also see passing this to consumers although we are still engaging government,” said EABL chief financial officer Risper Genga.

EABL also noted it would adjust the prices of spirits as a result of the inflation, expressing fears of low sale volumes. This year’s annual inflation tax adjustments of up to 6.3 percent will see the price of some goods including beer, bottled water, and juice surge from next month. The tax adjustments on beer will see the rate of the excise duty of the product jump to 142 shillings per liter, from the current 134 shillings which were effected in July.
