JKIA suspends incoming and outgoing flights

Kenya Airports Authority has announced that the runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has been temporarily closed due to an aborted takeoff by Cargo plane that developed technical issues this morning.

As a result of the runway closure, all incoming and outgoing flights have been temporarily suspended.

"Our top priority is the safety of all passengers and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible."

"We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. We advise all passengers to contact their respective airlines for further information on the status of their flights."

Not really , because no flight is allowed to fly with bad tires , and this is part of the minimum operating requirement , the engineer will not sign the aircraft out .
Now the actual reason is , an aborted take off leads to such damages .
That aircraft you see there is , can carry 112,000kgs of cargo. The weight of the aircraft fully loaded it’s about maximum 396,000kgs at take off.
Now imagine at full engine speed trying to bring that weight to a stop . Where does the pressure go to ?
Hence the wheels took the hit, though they will have to do a full undercarriage check to determine if there were any other damages to the landing gears.
