Hii inauma sana considering we're one of the highest producers of geothermal power in the WORLD.

Yaani, the cost of electricity per kWh at household level in Kenya remains among the highest in Africa.

Of the 31 countries included in the analysis, Kenya ranks 3rd highest after Cape Verde and Mali. One kWh of electricity in Kenya is approximately 23 times higher than Ethiopia, nearly 80 times higher than Sudan and almost 2 times higher than in Tanzania. This is despite the production of electricity per capita being higher in Kenya (220) than Ethiopia (121) and Tanzania (134) among others.

Interestingly, Kenya has among the highest household connectivity to electricity in Sub-Sahara Africa estimated as 75% in 2019 (WB), when the same in Tanzania was estimated as 35%, South Africa (85%), Nigeria (60%), Ghana (80%), Ethiopia (43%) and Uganda (27%)

Bro, thanks for highlighting this issue. Hata mimi kama kuna kitu huniuma na inafanya nachukia Uhuru kabisa is this. It is simply unfair to subject ordinary Kenyans to this kind of ferkery and exploitation by foreigners.

Let me explain. I expected Uhuru to be a transformational president who straightened out this extremely corrupt sector using the law. As a country we have invested heavily in power production, BUT ALSO ON THE OTHER HAND ALLOWED CARTELS, controlled by local and foreign mafioso, WHICH TOOK ROOT WAKATI WA MOI TO CONTINUE EXPLOITING KENYANS. These cartels in the power sector comprise basically of IPPs who use diesel to generate electricity as well as, more recently, green energy producers like Turkana Power which was recently paid Sh7 billion free money eti the electricity they were generating was not being evacuated (The Uhuru gavament signed the shitty contract).

Despite knowing that Kenya had become self-sufficient in electricity generation, the Uhuru gavament went on to renew contracts with diesel IPPs as recently as 2015, RUNNING ON FOR 20 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who does that honestly, WHO??? When you have excess electricity from geothermal, unaruhusu money to be mopped up from poor Kenyans to drain out to Paris and London!! Just look at your bill and see what percentage goes to 'fuel levy'.

And yet Kenya now has so much excess electricity the minister for energy is asking us to us it to cook instead of gas!

To make matters worse you sign weird contracts with the likes of Turkana Power where again the Kenyan taxpayer faces punitive fines at every twist, and that after giving them free land running to 150,000 acres!! Yaani we were raped and looted by the same colonialists before independence and we still allow them to do this shit to us. Eti when your cucu buys a token in shags, a sizable amount goes directly to Paris!

Recently, Kenya Power said it could declare a force majeure - "hatuwezi lipa electricity producers juu ya reduced demand due to covid na kwa hivyo all power purchase contracts are null and void" and guess what? Within a week the Board was sent packing. Your guess is as good as mine as to why..............

I was not expecting Uhuru, like a majority of 'serikali saidia' shitheads, to make me rich or famous, just to do the basics of running the country. He has failed us big time.

Did they expect people at the last mile connection point to pay for electricity at this prices? First of all they cannot even string power lines properly. Low voltage transmission lines look like spaghetti on plate. Kenya Power Pyramid Scheme has been a cash cow for successive regimes since independence. It is now beginning to crumble.
