The latest opinion poll by Radio Africa shows that the former Nairobi governor is comfortably ahead of his main opponent, Mvita MP Abdullswamad Nassir. Sonko may have only announced his entry into the race just a few weeks ago, but his reputation and name recognition surely precedes him. In the poll, Sonko has 45.6% support, as opposed to 31.5% for Nassir. For context, the Mvita MP has declared interest in the seat for years, versus Sonko who only relocated there last month. UDA’s Hassan Omar is a distant third with just 12.1% support, and only 5.4% said they were undecided. A further 4.7% said they won’t vote.
This poll was conducted last week, and at the rate Sonko is gaining. The strength Sonko is displaying in Mombasa has caused unease in many quarters. On Thursday, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji vowed to block him from vying, stating that his impeachment automatically disqualified him from holding public office. However, the former Nairobi governor may have the law and IEBC on his side. The elections body stated earlier this week that a person can only be barred from vying only after they have exhausted all legal options. As it stands, Sonko has a pending case at the Supreme court.

Mtu wa Mombasa hapa
Wont vote for Sonko, but I feel people
The past 10 years have been hell for Mombasa, whether Mtu wa Bara, Mijikenda ama Swahili/Arabs, for as long as you are not the governors family, or inner circle.
Zero development, absolutely zero, broken infrastructure, and a dead activity from the County.
Let me tell you a personal one
Occasionally I do tenders, and one of the conditions for most tenders is the SBP, (Single Business Permit)
Applied for mine, paid , got provisional, the substantive one has never been signed as we are talking.
Apparently, its digitally signed.
The company that runs that system has not been paid, so it decided nothing will be signed.
Try imagining how many people are loosing works and tenders coz of absence of SBP.
However, most firms ask for the provisional one, and the receipt for payment. Yaani hata wao wanajua hio county ni bure
Secondly, where I live, Tudor, am forced to drive round to avoid potholes, coz of a contractor who dug them 2 years ago, and left!!....and many more
This is not a vote for sonko
Its more of a no confidence vote on Joho, and his project, Nassir
Karibuni kahawa, mahamri na mbaazi za nazi priss

Sonko seems to have once again outsmarted the system as he did im 2017. I am currently in Mombasa and yesterday asked an Uber driver about Sonko. He says the non Arab locals are fully behind Sonko.
He told me in Mombasa discrimination is rife kama huna damu ya waarabu in you and they see Sonko as their hope. The only thing standing between Sonko and the seat is the courts. I pity Sharif Nassir's son, I kinda like him as a leader.
