While witnessing to a non-believer in my quest to earn a scholarship at Watchtower Bible School of Gilead, he asked me a very interesting question: what benefit does one accrue by being religious here on earth? This fellow had a very logical argument that the religious and nonreligious alike undergo the same tribulations while here on earth. And to a larger extent, they live a disadvantaged life by trying to keep to the narrow path. The bible teaches us that God blesses the righteous and judges the wicked. Yet , it so often appears that the ungodly prosper more and suffer less than the godly. It therefore becomes very hard to convince someone that there is a better life awaiting them in paradise when they clearly cannot enjoy the benefits promised here on this earth by the same Bible.
A Parable was told to me by one @supu comparing God to a watchman. If you live in a crime-prone area like yours truly, then you understand the peace of mind that comes with having a watchman watch over you and family as you enjoy your sleep. Unbeknownst to most of you ignorant senators, the watchman falls asleep as soon as you put the lights off, only to wake up just before you put the lights on. The (false) assumption that the watchie is watching over you guarantees you a good night's sleep. On the other hand, if you have no watchie (or a mùtina for similarly false security), you sleep with one eye open.
Same thing with having a believe in God. You are able to undergo difficult situation by having the belief that someone is with you and will rescue you from all situations. You'll sleep hungry, but the faith in you will not allow your heart to be troubled. You will have hope of a better day tomorrow as promised by God.
Happy Saturday senators.
