Importing cars from Singapore

I have seen a certain page on Facebook called Imports by Kairo that deals with importation of exotic cars i.e Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Range rover, Jaguar etc..

Most of the cars they import are from Singapore and they are cheap as compared to ex Japan.

What are the cons of importing a car from Singapore?

Cars from Japan are used politely. Cars in better shape fetch better prices at the auction. If you get one from Japan you will spend on repairs mpaka ushangae. Then you will know that Toyotas are unreliable when not well looked after. I guess that their road network is not as good.

Singapore cars have done excess mileage. This is because they are so damn expensive to buy and insure for use in that country, that they are used to their fullest.
I sat in a e250 benz that was used as taxi in singapore. The car looked really clean and in great condition. I looked at the odometer and im not joking, that shit was was 800k+ kms.
Singapore is not a big country. You can cover its length in 4hrs or so. People usually keep a car for around 10yrs (unless im mistaken) before they must sell it or pay an additional tax to keep an "old" car on the roads.
Even for a cab, that kind of mileage is madness.

The good thing is that the cars are required by law to go for inspections regularly which is very tightly enforced. Any mods to the car need state approval this includes something as mundane as changing the size of tires your car came with as standard to adding a spoiler on your boot.

As the imports by Kairo himself noted, those cars could be a hit or a miss. When leaving Singapore, they're not inspected and it has to be done at Mombasa. It might look good from afar but when it arrives, it may be far from good.

Importing yourself may save you upwards 100k. It is so easy and straight forward. Then if you buy locally you could end up buying a high mileage car whose odo has been tampered with. They do this locally since pre-shipment inspection looks out for tampering and will not issue a certificate. If you ship in your own car you will go for a grade 4 with no history of accidents or rusty under carriage . It may cost more than what they use to import old mileage, rusty cars that they repaint before sale.

Import from Nippon. No regrets.

What I meant is that preshipment inspection looks for mileage tampering so car sellers import high mileage cars and decrease mileage ikiwa kwa yard. If you are to import a car they even state mileage kwa auction sheets ukiperuse magari so u settle for one which you think is value for money. If the car is for your use, mileage iko low will come in handy. High mileage cars sometimes are rusty and you are guaranteed to replace parts sooner.

Good news. KEBS have appointed a company to carry out inspection for Singapore cars. Singapore generally huwa na more sporty trims of cars than Japan.
