I stand with mzee Ndung'u

The object was strange looking, but he went ahead and started cutting it.
He noticed yellow smoke, which was strange. But he continued cutting anyway.
Then kaboom 💣.

Who qualifies for a Darwin award if not him?
I was thinking along similar lines @Aviator.
As much as this mzee deserves help and sympathies isn’t there some things we are intentionally failing to see and point out here?

Here is a qualified wielder and metal worker. Any wielder worth his salt will tell you that you don’t jump into manhandling and cutting cylindrical metal objects as they could be munitions. Same way you don’t just blitz containers which previously held petroleum products as the gas fumes could led to an explosion.

There seems to be an inexcusable disregard of professionalism and Health and Safety protocols here.
Could this be because of poor training or a don’t-care attitude or too much poverty?

How do you stand with someone who does not consider his safety first? If doctors have saved his life let his people carry the financial burden.
