The government has published regulations to make it mandatory for every Kenyan to register for the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS), better known as Huduma Namba.
Upon registration one will be issued with a Huduma card that will make all other identification documents obsolete.
The card will also be issued to all foreigners granted lawful residency in Kenya and registered refugees.
It will also be issued to a child who has attained the age of six and adults aged 18 and above.
It will now be compulsory to register all newborns with Huduma Namba within 90 days of birth; failure to which one will be penalised.
