How to import goods from China using Aliexpress and Mpost

Aliexpress is an online retail market place where buyers buy goods at a fixed price. It is similar to Jumia and Kilimall here in Kenya.

Aliexpress has a wide range of products, and well-stocked, hence a wide range of customers all over the world. The main advantage of importing goods using Aliexpress is the availability of products sold cheaper prices.

In order for one to shop on Aliexpres, one has to have an account, that's if you're a new user.

Visit aliexpress.com using your phone or laptop;

On the top right of the page, click on Account, the Join, if you don't have an account as follows;

Enter your email address and password, then click on create an account.

After successful login, you can change the currency to Kenyan currency for easy calculations by clicking on the third tap from right indicated 'English/USD' then save.

Navigate through the site to view the products you'd like to import, with different categories as shown below;

When you finally decide on the product(s), check on the price and whether you afford it, shipping method, overview, review, and specifications as shown in these pictures;

2. Revies, overviews, and specifications. Before anything else check on reviews, this shows how people have rated the product, whether it was useful to them or not. On overviews, you're shown how to use the product, the materials used to make the products and other useful information as shown below

3. Shipping method

You can choose to ship your product using MPost or provided means on the website. M-post allows mobile phone users to receive via their phones, it also allows you to use your mobile number as your formal postal address.

To use MPost to ship your products, you first have to describe your virtual PO Box, where you'll pick up your parcel,then for example, the famous GPO whose postal code is 00100 which you'll use for registration.

To register for MPost, dial *234# using your Safaricom sim card and select Mpost.

Register using your ID Number and navigate through to enter the postal code of your choice. After completion, you'll be required to pay a fee. Once the payment is done, you'll receive your virtual PO Box which has your mobile number and postal code that you chose.

Once you have done the purchase and made MPost your mode of shipping, you'll receive a text message indicating the product imported, one is required to collect their goods within 7 days of arrival. Mpost shipping method is absolutely free.

Choose your most convenient method, you can choose the free ones if you don't need the product urgently or pay for shipping which takes 7 - 15days

After the above processes, you can now add to cart if you want to continue shopping or click on buy now if that's the only product you'd like to buy. Once you've added your correct address with the exact location and paid for the product, you'll receive an email that will help you track your goods until delivery.

TIP: Import products that are allowed into the country, to avoid losses

I have a mpost account though haven't used it on AliExpress
I used a normal post office box and items worth $38 were charged like $20 duty+vat bana.
But if you are bringing 1 piece of item i hear you aren't charged.

Just ordered two items worth 2800 on their app paid via mpesa and shipping address ni mpost afew minutes ago will update on how it goes

One item i ordered on 6th feb has been delivered just picked it from my local post office after text notification yesterday. I have been asked to pay ksh 100 handling charges on an item bought for ksh 65 and used ksh 50 to ship! But nimeelezwa if your tracking number inaanza na UH or RD unalipa tu hio handling charges ikiwa kubwa attracting customs unapigiwa na kuelezwa the ammount of taxes to bring with you

I also ordered something recently,it's my first time. it has already been shipped, niliambiwa itafika around 23rd this month
