Wadau,

There is a young man currently torn between choosing a career as a sociologist, psychologist or a lawyer. Which of these three offer him the best way forward?

Also, is studying Law at MKU (parklands campus) something worth undertaking ama aende to the other universities?

I also sponsor a relative who is undecided between Communications and Psychology since she is not good with math/science and would prefer to do online classes as she hustles.
So I asked around and psychology was deemed to fit those who are willing to go all the way to Masters level in order to practice. My 2 cents

Seems like he's already settled for law. Just undecided on the campus.

Hiyo swali ya pili is for me, lazima nifinye mfuko hapa na pale at least nibaki na ya kurushia dirty tirries
I think he could study at the most affordable university. Am assuming it's self sponsored. Most important thing is to ensure the university is accredited by CUE to offer the course.
Refer to below document.

As someone who has worked in the legal field since 96, I cannot advice my kids to study law now.
The field is too saturated.
Before 1996, only UON offered Law, then followed Moi, then the floodgates opened, and every university was offering
In 1996, a newly admitted advocate in Mombasa could command a salary of 100+K
Today, even 50K is a tall order, and even then, most are being given contracts.
But this is my humble opinion

Then something else
Some of the jobs which required a lawyer in the past are being taken over by technology
10 years ago, to form a company you required a Lawyer.
We used to make offshell companies and sell them at a premium
Today with ecitizen, it takes you 3 days to get a company
The lands digitalization process has the end result of minimizing parties to a land transaction to the buyer and seller.
Again, today you are dealing with a more informed citizenry with access to info and DIY tutorials
I swear I have seen lawyers being seriously embarrassed in court by a layman who has done his research well.

@kingolonde is right that lawyers have flooded their profession.
My advice to the young man is to go for law. But not to be a lawyer but to have a legal background.
@JazzMan, you pick the cheapest university as possible.

Then based on his abilities and interests, he can start side hustles even while in university. Offering legal support for a fee to the private sector or NGOs. By the time he graduates with a law degree, he will have charted his own path to an income generating self employed enterprise.
In hindsight, this is the path I would have picked for myself.

In today’s highly competitive global market, anyone encouraging a university student to major in sociology and psychology is not thinking <outside the box>.
