If kenya we adopt the same thing, we can combat desertification and food shortages. But tuliambiwa mvua inatoka mbinguni
How practical would that be especially kama huku Nairobi?
Where would we all go to plant trees on one day in Nairobi unless watufungulie huko northlands tukapande?

Ps. I think this is a noble idea but the practicality of it in our local setting would be a huge challenge especially in urban areas.

You can Google china green belt. They're not planting trees in cities but rather at semi arid areas to stop the desert from spreading. . In kenya , we can plant in arid areas ,sio Nairobi peke, it can turn out to be a holiday road trip also, push the desert north kabisa. Kuna thread in this forum how china did it.

You missed the part where china took it's Destiny by hand and realized they're responsible for it . That's why they're still executing corrupt individuals while us we're electing them to highest offices. Also you missed the part where we always hide behind hustling or looking for the next meal instead of fighting for our rights and building a better society that's why folks were comfortable saying bora tuuziewe mafuta 300 bob but isikose.

The reality is Kenya is an extremely poor country and if you think the poor are hiding behind hustling or looking for the next meal then I don’t think we can debate further.

70% of Kenyans live in rural areas, even without the urban population such an initiative would be a game changer.

And looking at our urban areas there is plenty of space to plant trees, alongside roads, along streams, rivers and swamps. I was in Tena Estate a few months ago and marvelled at the transformation trees could make there now that there is tarmac all over the place absorbing the heat.

There is also plenty of space in home compounds, in public spaces (as few as they are) and if all these are exhausted they can move on to flowers and establishing nurseries.

A forward-thinking administration can do wonders

75% of Kenya's beef comes from those arid lands. Pastoralists would protest encroachment on their grazing lands.

There is a specific class of trees that should be planted in arid areas, plant those and you will not have any conflict with pastrolists given the obvious benefit to livestock as alternative forage, shade and support for other types of vegetation.

The govt planted prosopis in baringo and turkana and pastoralists have complained that it has caused havoc and taken over their grazing lands.
