A rare photo of our hero Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi (center) in India. He was recruited by the British Army to fight for them in the second world war between 1941 and 1945.
He was a military genius and they made him in charge of scouting the enemy hindouts.
As you can see here, he was provided with bodyguards and had several ranks.
It is while he was fighting for the British against the Germans that he noticed that the white men were cowards and they feared to be killed. They could strategically place Africans in the battle front so that they (Africans) should be killed first. In short the British used africans as "shield".
Kimathi was very bitter about this and he kept it for himself but vowed to teach them a lesson.
He interrogated some of the Indians who they had captured. The Indians revealed to Kimathi that the British and Germans are enemies and they had come to take their land and country away from them.
Kimathi passed a coded message to a quite a number African comrades in the battlefield to strategically stand or be next to a white soldier. When they were signalled to attack, the african soldiers killed most of the white soldiers next to them instead of attacking the Indians.
The Indians were very happy to hear what Kimathi had done.
To cut the long story short, it is through these wars that many african soldiers learnt that the white people can also die and that their blood was not special.
Kimathi was punished for this "heinous" act and him and some other comrades were deported back to Kenya in next ship.
After India got independence, the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru travelled all the way from India to Kenya to say thank you to Dedan Kimathi who by then had already been executed for participating in the MAU MAU rebellion.
He thanked Kimathi widow Mukami Kimathi (maitû) by educating four of our siblings who were already taken in an orphanage (Dianand Home)
He also offered their full scholarship in india. Mr. Julius Kiano secretly facilitated their passports and their travel documents.
The airlifting secret was revealed by unknown people and the government cancelled the trip.
Maybe they did it in good faith because rumours had it that they had been adopted. A story for another day
