I dare say that people have to live like civilized, cultured and enlightened people to earn a decent sendoff.Kenyans need to behave like civilised, acculturated and enlightened people.
Tosh. One of the things that set us apart from animals is respectful handling of the dead.
We do not do so depending on the character of the departed but on the basis that human body, whether alive or dead, deserves respect and reverence.
It will come as a shock to many to realise that one of the universal human rights is to be afforded a decent and respectful send off. All countries of the world have signed and committed themselves to observing this.
In Britain, people stop, remove hats and bow at passing hearses. Here, Councils and Municipalities have a duty to give a decent burial or cremation to poor, homeless, or unclaimed people. They call it a pauper’s funeral.
One of the laws of the Catholic Church and many other Churches is that the dead have to be disposed with respect and dignity.
Need I say more? Kenyans need to behave like civilised, acculturated and enlightened people.
