A police officer who fatally shot his boss has been arrested after he was traced to a bar in the Rift Valley City of Nakuru.

Confirming the incident on Monday, December 27, the County's Police Commander, Beatrice Kiraguri, noted that the unidentified officer was nabbed after his cell phone was traced to the joint.


The officer attached to Utheri Wa Lari police post in Mai Mahiu shot and killed his senior at the station after arriving while drunk.

Kiraguri noted that the officer is expected to produce the riffle he used to kill his boss, identified as Ayub Polo, which he hid after the incident occurred on Sunday, December 26.

A junior officer who fatally shot his boss at a private Naivasha police post has been arrested.
According to Nakuru county police commander Beatrice Kiraguri, the officer, identified as Corporal Joseph Muthunga, was traced to an entertainment joint in Nakuru West by detectives tracking him using his mobile phone. Kiraguri said Muthunga will be ferried to Naivasha for further questioning, Nation reported. The officer will also be required to produce the G3 rifle he used to kill his boss.
He will be arraigned upon the completion of the ongoing investigations. Argument turns tragic As reported earlier, Muthunga shot his boss, Senior Sergeant Ayub Polo, after an argument ensued between them. According to reports, Muthunga took issue with his boss after the latter confronted him for returning to the station late. On Saturday, December 25, Polo had allowed his officers to make merry out of the station but ordered them to return not later than 6pm. While his colleagues heeded their boss' directive, Muthunga arrived at the station minutes past 10pm while drunk. "The officer came back at around 10pm totally drunk and the victim lashed out at him. He went to his house and picked up a gun. He shot in the air three times and when his senior came out to find out what was going on, he shot him six times," said a witness.

In similar news, a Kirinyaga-based police officer was arrested after shooting dead his colleague following a heated verbal argument. Police officer dies in deadly feud The disagreement between the two officers erupted at Gathambi Coffee Factory, where they had reportedly been deployed to provide security services. According to an account by security guards at the factory who witnessed the tragic incident, the officer who pulled the trigger was drunk and was the one who started the deadly feud.
