Four passengers are nursing serious injuries after the matatu they were travelling in from Lodwar to Kitale was hijacked by bandits.
A passenger who survived the Sunday ordeal said a group of around eight bandits intercepted the matatu along the Kapenguria-Lodwar road, between KWS Camp and Kainuk police station, and opened fire through the windshield.
Among those injured is the matatu driver who was shot in the chest, as well as three others who sustained gunshot injuries on their heads and legs.
“The bandits proceeded to the vehicle and robbed the passengers of some of their belongings before fleeing,” said the police in a report.
The passenger took over the vehicle and drove it to Kainuk Medical Dispensary before, where the injured were given first aid before being transferred to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital.
Police are yet to establish the identity of the victims as investigations get underway for the bandits.
