Corrupt KRA and Nairobi County Parking Cartel

There is a crime syndicate involving petty criminals, Nairobi City county employees and KRA guys working on Saturdays. A "parking attendant" approaches a motorist who is ignorant of the parking fees payment system and persuades them to not pay because the "attendant" will "take care". The motorists vehicle is clamped very soon after he is persuaded to evade paying the parking fees. The crooks then charge a minimum of 50% of the real cost of unclamping a vehicle.

This kind of criminal activity is bad because it entices people to break the law with an intention of profiting from their folly.

Listers, fungueni roho! Has this happened to you or someone you know?

Happened to my uncle once kitambo when I was in form 1....

... Not exactly like you explained... But it's the same script.

... He left his car for like a month.... In the streets.

I think he knew what he was doing...

Then he sued....

Kenyans will always be gullible to cons because of our insatiable love for “deals” even when it is apparently clear that those deals are thievery and therefore illegal.

There is a big problem in our national psyche when citizens are always looking for ways and means to circumvent processes and procedures.

I think we have never internalised the very crucial warning of self interrogation known as Caveat Emptor.
At the end of the day when one is conned in such a manner they have no one to blame but themselves. Worse, they have no recourse to legal redress because they were conned while perpetuating an illegality.

You are right madam. The victim was gullible. Lakini the real perpetrators are the government workers. They actively encourage law breaking (which is a crime) and then benefit from illegal fines(another crime).

Before clamping you are sent a message to warn you to pay (that’s in case you’ve paid before so the system has your phone number)

For Petty things like parking i always pay electronically. The cost of being blackmailed and made to feel indebted to fools way lower than me is costlier than the few pennies saved.
Naona tuko wengi!
Worst type ni those who “assist” you to park in a pretty straightforward parking! Like I have navigated all through the traffic and got to town but simply slotting into a parking is where I need assistance!!

Absolutely. But don’t you think we aid and enable that by providing the market @bigDog? By opting to pay half the real price to the crooks instead of being good and honest citizens and paying to the right quarters?

Imagine this whole scenario is replicated almost in every sector of our interactions. Even domestic and farmhands all the way to Industrial warehouses and most offices.
Very disheartening behaviour to say the least.

I read somewhere I can’t recall now that Kenya could be doing very well economically were it not for these widespread bad manners.
Everybody want to make a buck out of everybody’s else. We have accepted swindling as a legitimate and respectable way of making money.
How can stealing from your employer be acceptable behaviour?
Is it any wonder that businesses are constantly going down instead of expanding?
