Chariots and ox carts didn't weigh more than a ton.cobblestone roads last for centuries if well done, the romans used this technique and their road network still exists today
We can only blame the drivers of the vehicles, residents and the local authorities, common sense dictates that you can't take a car heavier than a pickup to a cobblestone street. In the hood of my birth cobblestone streets are still intact four years down the line, due to a vigilant neighborhood association, if you have a canter, you can only pack it when empty.Chariots and ox carts didn't weigh more than a ton.
