Is it that kuna shida na mwafrika, Mimi ndio sina pesa ana kuna a general stupidity. Kwa nini bei ya gari second hand Kenya iko juu hata kuliko bei ya new vehicles in developed jurisdictions? Take the Lexus LX for example. A 2021 brand new vehicle starts at around $89,000 maxing at $100,000( roughly Kshs. 11m) for a fully speced car. Huku Kenya, Lexus ya 2015-2016 ndio inachezea 16m.
Used European brands, considered junk in developed rich countries, fetch a premium huku. Good luck selling a used range rover in the US or a used BMW or Volkswagen in the UK. Lakini hapa Kenya, discovery ya 2014 inachezea 5m. Range Rover Vogue ya 2012 jamaa anataka karibu 10m. Sad.

Do people buy cars for that amount? Inakaa the margin is to cover for the time it takes to make that sale

Juzi nimeenda ocha nayo, halafu kulikuwa na Rav4 na Xtrail kwa msafara. Kufika mashinani kumenyesha mvua ya kuyeyusha simiti, bara bara hazikufaa kupitika. Sisi wa escudo ndio tulikuwa tunavuta the rest kuwatoa kwa matope.

Lazima ninunue moja kabla next year iishe.

Car importation is the government's cash cow... and by golly, they milk that cow to the last drop. I am however, not sure if I have a problem the government taxing luxury but I have a big problem when the government over-taxes food, small businesses and basic utilities like power and water. Energy is over taxed in Kenya to unsustainable levels.

Addiction to mtumba culture, we can make a shift to new showroom cars but the govt doesn't want to encourage us for obvious reasons of taxes on mtumba.
You're very right used cars outside there are very cheap.
A ten year old car normally goes for around 250 to 300k out there.

Got to do with the Taxes KRA imposes alafu ii ujinga yao ya kubase the price of a 7 year old car with that of a Brand New Car(CRSP). Alafu the fact that Local Dealership exeggarate the CRSP of the cars
