0.6% exports compared to the loss and damage to infrastructure, what is more weighty?
Hii kazi yetu inaharibiwa na propaganda za mbwa Uhuru na shoga Matiangi. And as for good friends like you, @Aviator ,you are too knowledgeable not to be aware of certain issues. Unless you deliberately decided to be ignorant like many others.

Hio 0.6 per cent ni exports of non ferrous scrap metal only. Kenya does not allow the export of ferrous metals to the outside world. Labda to fellow members of the eac. Steel, which is what people know as chuma, is recycled and resold right here in Kenya. Ndio hizo chuma za mjengo zimepanda vibaya sana.

Fi - In a random scrap dealers warehouse, non ferrous metals, ie copper, aluminium, brass, etc, constitutes about 10 percent of all their dealings. 5 percent ni plastics, shoe soles, bones, waste paper, etc. The rest 85 percent is steel.

But kwa sababu ya chuki yenu...

You don't have to comment if you don't know what you are talking about. This issue is very personal to me and I feel like you are attacking me personally with your your meaningless jest.

Question is, does it make sense for a country to have a 50kg transformer worth 2m vandalized and sold for 500bob as scrap metal which makes deformed bars worth 20k?
Who is gaining except the smelter? At the expensive of a country's crucial infrastructure?
Unless we learn to collect scrap as it is meant to be, then nitasema hii sector ifungwe for the time being.
Nduthi pia.

It is OK. I agree with you. It's alright.

The worst vandals are government servants and the political leaders. They loot everything and fail to provide security for the little they have left. They then make you hate us. They pass laws and decrees they never intend to enforce. And we are all there to clap for them and laugh when they oppress our fellow citizens. It is not that there never were regulations governing the scrap metal industry. And the police are supposed to prevent vandalism. Instead, they are all out there providing security to the mighty leaders and the rest of them are busy robbing motorists, bar owners, etc etc.
