Elder Lister
Adages, also known as sayings, maxims, axioms, dictums, or methali, all share one notable feature; they are brief and to the point. Examples of adages include Kinyozi hajinyoi, Kunguru hafugiki, and Mkono mtupu haulambwi. The brevity is not supposed to make them memorable - everybody ignores them anyway until they are bitten. Rather, they are brief to make them recognizable after the fact. The old men saw no point of composing lengthy warnings no one would heed. Instead, they chose to make them brief to serve as reminders after the fact- the same way the ‘Mind your Head’ sign becomes apparent only after you bang your head. And to the media mogul I now say, Asiyesikia la mkuu huvunjika guu, hata likiwa new shape.
