Kuna soko mbili pale mbili pale. Moja iko Nyandarwa county, ingine iko kiambu county . The one on the highway along Nairobi - Naikuru road is soko ya wanjinga , past that towards flyover still on your right but not on the highway is the market in Nyandarwa county.

The name was given by president Moi (RIP). Before then, the place was called Kwa Njehu. Njehu was a corruption of a mzungu name whose original name nobody seems to know.
Every time Moi was on the road, he would stop by, buy all the merchandise at extremely high prices, and gift my former Alma Mater some cash for a bull or such.

Now, Moi would lecture the sellers on the need to be organized. A common trend then was that a customer would approach a seller asking for a bucket of potatoes. The seller would quote, say 200bob. The next seller would call the customer and offer the same at 180, the next one at 150, and so on. Eventually, the buyer would buy at a hundred without doing any bargain.
Moi used to be irritated by this, and thus would call them wajinga. Eventually, the soko became soko ya wajinga. Then it evolved to Soko Mjinga, and that is how it is called today.

Waoh good ! My first time to use that highway was in 1980 ! It was at midnight. The road was under construction ,we had to divert all the way to mai mahiu ,we were on our way to nyahururu for an emergency rescue mission ! Moi had just gotten the powers
