"Money is not everything" is the most misleading and disingenuous statement in the world today.

Surprisingly, people who say money isn't everything tend to be financially successful (relative to the ones they are addressing) and they only say so AFTER getting the money. That's the typical speech a rich guy gives a group of peasants before swindling them of the few coins they have left. That's why your pastor will tell you that money and other earthly possessions don't matter before receiving Ruto's stolen cash two Sundays later.

Wealthy people tell peasants "money is not everything" to prevent them from feeling bad about themselves. It is a coping mechanism.
