Shogun Toranaga

New Lister
Valentine's is around the corner and many men(why should men always pay!?) are freaking out about the places they might take their dates to that are also affordable. Fret no more, for I Shogun have some solutions that are not only fun but also affordable. They are below:

Picnic at the arboretum, Nairobi

You have nature at your beck and call at the arboretum, with its lush greenery and meandering trails that allow you to take long romantic walks. It is a spot created with lovebirds in mind and even when groups are around, it never appears crowded. A great place for reflective conversation!

Boat Riding At Uhuru Park

Last I checked boat riding at Uhuru Park costs Sh250 for 30mins. The beauty of this park located right in the heart of the city is that you are not limited to boat riding, there are camels, a merry go round for as little as Sh100.

Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost is located in Kiambu just 14 km from Nairobi. The entrance fee at Paradise lost is Ksh. 300 per person. At paradise lost you will get caves, a stunning waterfall, boat riding, nature trails, horse riding, bike riding, bird watching e.t.c.

Oloolua Nature Trail

Hidden away in the upmarket suburb of Karen is 250 hectares of the indigenous tropical dry Oloolua forest. The Oloolua Nature Trail is a favorite with visitors coming to do a short hike, to jog along the trail, to walk their dogs, or just for a relaxing picnic in this serene setting.

Psycho 60 Escape Rooms

This one of the most amazing unknown places to be in Nairobi. You will be locked into rooms at Psycho 60 where you will be required to solve some puzzles in 60 minutes. The rooms there are so scary. It is like real horror. The experience I had there is like no other. To visit this place check out there website www.psycho60.com

Explore Karura Forest

This is another scenic picnic spot and what the arboretum lacks in a water body, the Karura forest has in plenty. Walk along the numerous trails and end up by the waterfall listening to bird calls and the sound of rushing water. Just pack your walking shoes, buy snacks and a beverage, and carry Shs 100($1) for your entrance fee.

Indoor Rock Climbing At Climb BlueSky
Climb BlueSky is an indoor rock climbing gym located at Diamond Plaza Parklands on the 6th floor of their old tower. They also have another branch at Purdy Arms in Karen that is open only on Saturdays or Sundays. Their day Pass Rate is Sh800 and renting climbing shoes will cost you Sh400. They also have monthly/membership rates. Check out their page here for all the details.

Skating At Panari
The solar ice rink is one of a kind in Africa. According to their website, It measures 32 × 12 meters with an ice skating surface area of 15,000 square feet. It is totally enclosed with ice temperature at -250C and the air temperature inside the hall is 12oC. The rink can accommodate 200 skaters at any time and is open seven days a week from 11.00 am until 10.00 pm. Their rates are very affordable Sh600 for children up to 14 years and Sh800 for all ages groups 15 years and older per 60 minutes inclusive of the skating boots. Guess what, with the DisCoucher booklet there are free discount vouchers for every two tickets bought.

GP Karting

I believe if you love cars then GP Karting is a date idea that will get you really excited. Located just off Langata Rd, GP Karting is a great place if you want an adrenaline-filled activity. Starting from Ksh. 900, you get to drive a go-kart around the racing circuit.

Paintball
I didn’t realize there are quite a couple of paintball places in Nairobi. Jungle Paintball Kenya located in Parklands on Limuru road. Paintball fury located at Purdy arms or Langata near Carnivore. Shooters Haven along Thika Road or at Rolf’s Place. The prices are affordable with some places offering discounts depending on the number of people you are. Paintball Fury has a discount on ALL Sundays with the unbelievable price of Ksh 1000 for 150 Paintballs!

Trail Biking At Karura Forest

A visit to Karura forest is also another fun date idea whether you are a group of friends or as a couple. You can hire multi-speed trail bikes to use on the forest trail. According to their website, there are two bike depots. The charges are Sh500 per two-hour hire daily from 8:00 to 17:00 pm.
