Battery is expensive for someone with a strained budget, e.g in Nrb a 120 bird capacity cages Ni from 35k kwenda mbele depending on quality...now hesabu day old chicks, layers Ni 115/ in kenchic/muguku..then tukuje brooding costs, feeds est/bird is 2kg/bird chick mash(8wks), 7kg/bird growers mash upto 17wks ndivyo ianze layers mash..you have to rear the chicks in deep litter upto about 12-15wks ndivyo you transfer them to cages, alafu Kuna antibiotics, vitamins, vaccines, debeaking, water n.k

Anything above 200 birds, have a standby of 100k for feeds. deep litter system is preffered with/an option for free range area when weather allows. Totally fence off this area to keep neighboring birds from interacting with your babies. Production costs will be cheaper, have some vines/collards/termite traps in this play ground and you have happier hens with cheaper feeding costs. They also nest eggs in this area making collection easier and discourages cannibalism that comes from containment of birds.

Note: i farm for luxury, though profit is a must... I don't limit food when the birds are young (confinement age).
