It's been years since I did some coding related to web development. I'm in a different field now; optics and photonics.

It depends on what you want. If it is on web development-you need to learn the basics, HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP or any other scripting language. I think the advantage is that there are many frameworks that make work easier in this field.

For assembly- then you need C++, C.
General-purpose- Java, Python.

I would suggest you start with a general purpose or assembly. It gives you a solid background on any other languages out there. I use Java for Optical Networking.
