Naturally, I would just stare back trying to figure out whether I have ever known such a face. I was all innocent and well meaning. Only later did I find out they are usually peddlers. From that day, I won't look in the direction of a woman who seems to be out of place because I know what she is thinking and I don't want her to know that I know what she is up to.
