Four suspects: Gin Ammitou Abwao, Collins Karani Ireri, and Brian Mwaniki Njue were arrested with a toy pistol and suspected stolen phones were intercepted by Nairobi police on May 4, 2025, during a patrol along Kenyatta Avenue.
The DCI believes they were plotting a felony in the CBD and sought more time to investigate. A search of their red Audi A1 revealed seven smartphones, a toy revolver resembling an AK, rubber bullets, and a CCCP knife.
Police say the items suggest criminal intent and are conducting ballistic tests and cyber forensics on the evidence. A Nairobi court has granted investigators five more days to complete the probe before the case is mentioned again on June 10.
Corporal Ben Muyei told the court that ballistic tests are necessary to determine whether the toy gun and rubber bullets could function as real weapons. He also stated that cybercrime experts would analyze the mobile phones, which are believed to contain vital information that could link the suspects to further criminal activity.
He further argued for the suspects’ continued detention, saying, “Their release at this stage could interfere with ongoing investigations and hinder the arrest of additional suspects who are still at large.”

Then delete footage when needed as evidence.
Langat hana lake. Mukhwana ametoboka. Langat had instructed the OCS to ensure Ojwang' was disciplined. Everyone knows Langat was involved. Why is he not in detention same as the OCS?

Accord to evidence obtained from the station, Mukhwana started preparing the cell before Ojwang' arrived by transferring prisoners to other stations. That alone means he had prior instructions from somewhere. The phone call that was made to the OCS supports the claim that the OCS was involved, plus he participated in erasing the CCTV storage. For now, the OCS and Mukhwana cannot escape. If there was any communication between the OCS and DiG Langat during that period, Langat's fate is also sealed.Sounds fake!

Whether it was accidental we can only learn from the prisoners who did the beating. But whichever way, it is still murder since there is no provision for disciplining in the penal code.
Why has Mukhwana decided to speak now? That's because the chaps he contracted to do the job will talk, all four, and their story will be the same, leaving Mukhwana to take the blame. I'm sure his lawyer has advised him to come clean and carry just his part of the blame. The OCS might also change tune and implicate Langat if he realizes he is heading for danger.
