Can't blame Ruto though. I wish the drafters of the katiba had inserted how elected representatives (only a handful are leaders. Don't mix the two) need to be renumerated. Perhaps a share of the GDP per capita and ensured that a change would require a referendum.

To make it worse, the salary isn't the only avenue that the swines use to fatten themselves. Very depressing state of affairs.

The idea was to protect leaders from being compromised with inducements. However, as critics of the decision argued, leaders do not fall for inducements due to lack of money but due to lack of morals. As it turned out, the decision had the opposite effect from what was desired. Apparently, high remuneration leads to addiction to a high life.

Similar to drug addicts who require increasing doses with time to get the same high, our overly compensated class go on to seek more money through illegal means to maintain their high. Second, the addiction to soft life means they are ready to engage in all sorts of deals to prevent falling back to normal life. That is why the likes of Murkomen indulge in big heists to ensure they never slide back to normal lives even after they leave office. If Ruto himself is hustling through Adani as the whole country watches, what is happening among other government officials is too terrible to be imagined.
