It is curious that Mt. Kenya MP’s have been bought to introduce bad legislation in the agriculture industry and proposals on the use of ancestral and freehold land.,

There are dangerous bills being proposed to give control to agro-business local and international cartels.

James Kamau Murango, the Senator for Kirinyaga County and the agriculture chairman of the Senate, introduced the Rice Bill 2023 to the Senate.
Requirements for farmers in Rice Bill 2023
According to the Rice Bill, 2023, rice growers, nursery operators, cooperative societies, or associations must be registered by the county government where the business will take place.

The National Assembly has rejected the Mung Beans Bill 2022 which was co-sponsored by Mwingi North Member of Parliament (MP) Paul Nzengu of the Wiper Party. It sought to facilitate and develop a framework to regulate and promote the mung bean (ndengu) industry in Kenya.

The bill, which the Senate referred to the National Assembly, was originally sponsored by Kitui senator Enoch Wambua.
On Tuesday, September 24, MPs shot down the controversial bill at the second reading stage.

"The National Assembly has rejected the Mung Beans Bill, (Senate Bill No. 13 oF 2022) at the second reading stage. The Mung Beans Bill, 2022, co-sponsored by Hon Paul Nzengu in the National Assembly and originally sponsored by senator Enoch Wambua in the Senate, was published on December 30, 2022, and was read for the first time in the Senate on February 15, 2023. The bill was passed in the Senate and referred to the National Assembly on February 21, 2024," the National Assembly stated.
 

New bill proposes farmers must acquire licences to grow, sell nuts and oil crops​

  • The Nuts and Oil Crops Development Bill 2023, sponsored by nominated senator Hamida Kibwana, was tabled in parliament
  • It proposes that all persons involved in the production of nuts and oil crops must obtain licences from respective county governments
  • Individuals who contravene the law are liable to a fine not exceeding KSh 1 million, a prison term not exceeding two years, or both
If the new bill is passed, farmers countrywide will need to acquire licences to grow, process and sell nuts and oil crops.

he Nuts and Oil Crops Development Bill 2023, sponsored by nominated senator Hamida Kibwana, was tabled in parliament.

Individuals who contravene the law are liable to a fine not exceeding KSh 1 million, a prison term not exceeding two years, or both.

"A person who contravenes the provisions of section 25(1) commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding one million shillings or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or both," it states.

Which crops will require licences to grow and sell?

Crops that will require licences include:
Coconut, Cashew nuts, Castor beans, Macadamia, Groundnuts, Shied safflower, Oil seed. Palm oil, Bambara nuts. and Jojoba.

Besides farmers, the proposed bill will hit nursery operators, cooperative societies and associations.
 
Has any one found out what is behind this sustained attacked on farmers using legislation?. Nakumbuka time ya uhuru there was something to do with milk, but that was easily explained as "brookside state capture", but sahii it appears something is terribly a foot

The CS agriculture denied being the originator of the bills, seems it's Monsanto and private members of national and senate assemblies.

The CS recently said the ministry will talk to the MP who introduced a private members bill.
Only Parliament and Senate members can stop the nonsense.
