A-Frame Houses

They seem to be gaining popularity, especially for country homes which usually serve as short-term rentals.

Ironically, the A-frame is a practical approach to housing in nations that experience heavy snowfall since it helps to curb the accumulation of heavy ice, especially during winter.

Resident architect @randy simuoni kwa kijiji nowadays but angetupea more detailed thoughts.

Good stuff....creativity should be embraced, but it seems architects here in Kenya are still stuck on boisterous mansions that still make you go to the toilet next to the kitchen

I like that you're always liberal in your thinking though one has to wonder where should the fine line be?

Kama kuna a very wealthy relative of mine who has four wives and all their houses built in the early 90s feature a chimney yet have never had a fire lit. Another architecture anomaly that was en vogue back then.

Anyway, kila nyani na starehe zake.

As people gain new knowledge, its should be easily and quickly adapted into the designs...any architect still designing a house with a chimney would need to either go back to school or retire

These are beautifully done without being oversized as it is the common trend around here. Another reason equally important for high pitched roofing is to avoid accumulation of falling foliage that can accelerate roof decay. If I had waited longer to build my kibanda, I would have most certainly done it differently. Most local architects just like the local fundis never sharpen their skills and are usually stuck in the mediocrity of the past past years until the next popular copy and paste trend.

I feel conflicted about these houses.

A house that is large with large empty spaces and yet feels claustrophobic.
As good as they look, they need getting used to. You must remember there is lots of space that an average grown up cannot walk to without adjusting your height. It can be even more hazardous in the dark. The key is to furnish it such a way you the furniture can keep you within areas where you can stand erect.
