Police in Juja, Kiambu County are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sinking of a car into a dam, resulting in two deaths.

The victims, a man and a woman, were in their vehicle, Nissan X-Trail, when it gently moved and sank into the dam, eyewitnesses said.

It remains unclear what led to the car rolling into the dam without the two attempting to hop out.
Was it deliberately driven into the lake? Was the gear shift mechanism on neutral and, therefore, rolled into the lake without the occupants realising it? These are some of the questions being asked.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was parked on the shore of the dam on Tuesday night, January 17 before it slowly began moving into the water at around 10pm.

The victims’ bodies were retrieved on Wednesday, January 18. The woman’s body was found in the morning and that of the man recovered in the afternoon.

Authorities said the woman was likely in her twenties while the man was in his early forties.

Sarah Kiiru, the official wife to the deceased yesterday told Nation that he never suspected that his husband was engaging in extra marital affairs outside marriage and was really saddened and shocked by his death.
She told Nation that the husband, a contractor, left their home in Thika on Tuesday morning telling her that he was going to Kathiani, Machakos county where he was going to inspect a project that he had recently secured.
''My husband left home on Tuesday morning as usual and informed me that he was going to inspect a project that he had recently won in Kathiani, Machakos county. A friend who knows the registration of my husband motor vehicle would later inform me that his motor vehicle had plunged into a river and it was being reported on social media that he was with a woman in a compromising situation when they drove into a dam in Juja,’’ Ms Kiiru said.
She never suspected that her husband was being involved in a love affair with another woman since they did not have trouble in their marriage but regrets that he did not have to die in such a situation.

There are too many accounts doing rounds of what transpired. We cannot begin to contribute to the analysis when basic information is not consistent. That said, it is evident some characters are worried they might exit in a similar fashion, and they would not want the world to be left with shameful images of who they were. This incident has the hallmarks of a deliberated punishment from the universe.
