Western journalists will keep quiet about embarrassing happenings on their leaders but have taught Africans to blat out everything in the name of press freedom. When President Moi was launching the Nyayo cars at Kasarani in 1990, one of them failed to start, which was a huge embarrassment. But not even the loudest journalists at the time dared mention the incident.

Until his sacking on Friday, Mr Ateny Wek Ateny had served as President Kiir's press secretary for nine years.

South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardiit fired his press secretary a day after he sent home the Finance minister and Central Bank governor.
President Kiir sacked Ateny Wek Ateny, who served in his office for the last nine years, through a presidential decree aired on state-run TV SSBC Friday evening.
The President, who rarely discloses his reasons for the sackings, did not say why he let Mr Ateny go, apart from citing his constitutional powers that permit him to appoint and dismiss public servants.
Mr Ateny, known for his controversial statements defending the President, was appointed in 2013. He is a lawyer and a former practising journalist who was a critic of Kiir’s government before his appointment.
About his sacking, Mr Ateny said, “I heard about my removal on television. I was not told the reason I was fired. I am very grateful to the President for giving me an opportunity to serve the country

Both are embarrassing. Kibaki had to come live on TV to explain to the world he had one wife i.e. sex scandal. But he didn't care when his pants fell down on camera
