How will that accreditation work? Will they be accredited as engineers? Will they be allowed to register with professional bodies? Will they be allowed to bid for government contracts that require engineers e.g. bridges, dams etc?

The avenue for their examination and certification exists. The body called NITA has this avenue for offering what are called trade tests for skilled personel.

They may learn enough to do a good enough job but their knowledge has a ceiling and is not transferable to different contexts. Like a mechanic who learnt on the job how to deal with EFI cars but is clueless when confronted with a carbureted one

The government will acknowledge their existence and their limitations, thereby regulating every sector.
