So this is the killer stair case that took the lives of 14 young kids, There is a lot of failures in the design and construction here
No Rails and it is expected to handle a capacity of over 2000 students

Kennedy Echesa, an education expert says the Kakamega Primary School was a tragedy waiting to happen.

Speaking to Citizen TV’s Day Break, Echesa decried the learning conditions at the school saying the primary school has a population of 3128 students against a measly 73 teachers.

“I know this for a fact, and CS Maghoha can confirm, the school has a population of 3128 students against 73 teachers, you can already tell that this was a huge problem,” He said.

There are 51 classrooms in the entire school which means that every classroom may have more than the required maximum of 50 students per class.

In a week, Echesa explained that only three teachers are on duty, against the huge population of pupils.

This means that at some point, one teacher ends up handling a population of over 3,000 kids, single-handedly.

Echesa went on to argue that the chances of controlling the kids, especially during a crisis or a stampede is therefore slim if not impossible.

He was speaking on the backdrop of the school tragedy in which 14 pupils- a majority of them in class five- died during a stampede.

Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena on Monday told Citizen Digital that the pupils, most of them in Class Five, were leaving their classes heading home when the stampede occurred on a staircase at around 5pm.

40 other pupils, some of whom are alleged to have jumped off the third floor during the bizarre stampede said to have occurred due to panic, were left nursing injuries.

Huko ndio nilianza primary 1986

CS Magoha kazi yake ni shouting at watu wazima ni kama ni watoto wake. Will he resign ama the rules don't apply to him?
I am sori but I will keep calling out ujinga kama this nonsense you have written. Is it Magoha who built that atrocious staircase? Or, should he, as an individual, inspect ALL school staircases around the country because he's education CS?

Nimesema na nitasema; this trait of Blacks blaming their failures on others, especially their 'leaders' should stop. The people who should take responsibility here lie at very low levels - principal, teachers, county education officers etc.

It's not ujinga old man. He is always barking at people in his ministry even for small insignificant things. It follows that if he has a no tolerance for mistakes then he should have no tolerance for himself either.
He should take responsibility of what is going on in his ministry

For public buildings the the minimum flight width is 1200mm .......Hii naona ni kama iko sawa but the wall in the middle wasn't necessary. And yes the handrail is a must.

I only think the problem with that staircase is lack of a continuous guardrails. We're also not being told how many staircases exists in this particular block. Izo zingine maria umeandika hapo ni upuss. An average of about 43 pupils in a class aint a problem. That said, the school looks old. If there was catastrophic hazard awaiting to happen, why couldn't it have happened earlier? Tuambiwe what caused that disaster waache stori mingi za staircase na walimu
