DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting Abu Dhabi early Monday, its state-run news agency reported, the latest attack to target the Emirati capital.

The WAM news agency said on Twitter that missile fragments fell harmlessly over the capital, Abu Dhabi.

The Emirates “is ready and ready to deal with any threats and that it takes all necessary measures to protect the state from all attacks,” WAM quoted the UAE Defense Ministry as saying.

Videos posted to social media show the sky over the capital light up before dawn Monday, with points of light looking like interceptor missiles in the sky. The videos corresponded to known features of Abu Dhabi.

The missile fire disrupted traffic into Abu Dhabi International Airport, home to the long-haul carrier Etihad, for about an hour after the attack.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

However, the attack came a week after Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed an attack on the Emirati capital that killed three people and wounded six others.

In recent days, a Saudi-led coalition that the UAE backs unleashed punishing airstrikes targeting Yemen, knocking the Arab world’s poorest country off the internet and killed over 80 people at a detention center.

The Houthis had threaten to take revenge against the Emirates and Saudi Arabia over those attacks. On Sunday, the Saudi-led coalition said a Houthi-launched ballistic missile landed in an industrial area in Jizan, Saudi Arabia, slightly wounding a foreigner.

By the way, does the KAF still posses those buffalos that used to fly daily over Eastlands from Eastleigh Air Base in the 90s? Vile tulikuwa analogue ulikuwa unajua kinakuja TV ikianza kupata frequency interruption
i shudder when those ancient russian helicopters are overhead.

I shudder at the prospect but considering the Gulf politics and beef between Saudi allies and those of Iran, wouldn't Dubai, geographically speaking be a softer and more devastating target?
True, lakini politics ya emirates means Abu Dhabi the decision maker has to carry responsibility for the UAEs terrorist support policies, so hao ndio wanafaa kusuffer consequences.

But wacha tuone, labda the Houthis are testing waters with Abu Dhabi kuzubaisha the emiratis then strike in a location least expected.

Or it could be that they know the repercussions would be severe since the Emirati of Dubai is teeming with expats from all over the World including Western investments. Been to both cities and though Dubai has all the glitz, Abu Dhabi is where the real power, wealth and grandeur is. Pale Emiratis ni wengi and ordinary workers especially Filipinos, Indians and Africans.

Very interesting times indeed.

Enhe, they don't want to suck in the West. Kwanza wafaransa who are itching to prove they are still a world power but rely heavily on American logistics. Watu huku nje have fragile egos and self esteem.q

Does Nairobi have those missile interceptors?
Cc @JazzMan
A country's defense posture is dictated by existing threats. Right now the threat to Kenya comes from asymmetric warfare actors including Al Shabaab and Pokots. What we need are more attack helos, drones, close ground support platforms, and SF units with sufficient lift capability for quick deployment. We don't need fifth generation jets or heavy armour.

Sasa wameunda Iron Dome na US ikaongeza C-RAM. 96% Success rate, kazi ya Waisraeli inakuwanga kuweka deck chair kwa balcony na roof wajionee fire works
Wacha zako. It's fairly easy to overwhelm those systems since it takes several interceptor to engage one incoming missile. All Iran has to do to overwhelm Israelis defence systems is to launch a coordinated attack with Hezbollah. There then will be to many flying things in the air and the defence systems would be confused. Of course the following day Southern Lebanon and parts of Iran would go back to the stone age...
