A police officer attached to Changamwe Police Station, Mombasa has taken his own life after penning a letter to the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

In a suicide note seen by this media house, the officer asked his boss to treat his suicide as a natural death stating that he no longer wanted to live.

“Kwanza kabisa natoa shukrani zangu kwa ule mda tumefanya kazi pamoja. Yangu nikuwaambia mimi naona muda wangu wa kuuishi duniani umefika mwisho, sina any other reason, just take it as a natural death and take me home sir,” the note read in part. The officer, whose identity has not been made public, further asked his colleagues to send some money to a fellow officer identified as sergeant Maina in the event that contributions towards his funeral expenses are made.

“Pili naomba kama mtaform a WhatsApp group ya mchango please out of that contribution, please submit Ksh2400 to Sgt Maina,” the note further stated.

In the note, which appears to portray that the officer was in debt, he listed mobile phone numbers belonging to two women, asking his OCS to send them money should contributions be made towards his send-off.

“These two numbers ambao walinisaidia na pesa yao; Jeruto – 0726#####5 -MPESA shop -17,000, Philipita – 0726#####1 – This lady she’s my classmate from class one to Form 4, alinisaidia na Ksh50k,” the suicide note further stated.

The officer further asked his boss to treat the matter as confidential in safeguarding his image before his family.

The entire police force system needs to be changed, right from admission, training, deployment to working conditions.
Seems the system is still precolonial. You can see the housing and the kind of beds in that picture.
We also need to realise they are still humans and faces the same challenges, stress as normal people face. Counseling should be in every station.
We demand them to be so hardened, which is actually not the case

I doubt it is as a result of trauma. Clearly he was in financial problems. He owed well over 100k, I would estimate, considering he threw away his sim cards because he had borrowed there as well.

To make matters worse, he had 4 kids, school going. I sincerely don't get why people huzalishana kama panya and they have no wealth.

Pole kwake. He has decided to get off and may his soul rest in peace.

If you take a close look at their payslips circulating online, most do not have financial literacy. They are in so many insurances, shylocks in terms of premiums, platinums have been harvesting from their payslips with high interest rates. They still have bank and sacco loans. Some are left with negative instead of one third. Reason for more bribes

"The death of a parasite that thrives on the sweat and blood of a hapless host is an occasion that calls for extreme and unrestrained celebration by the host. Death to rogue police is death to Satan". - @Magreb , 2021.
I dislike this, and also dislike the fact that the OP chose to identify the victim as "D-", although we have some corrupt elements in the police force, it is good to show some respect to the dead, what would family members of the deceased feel like if they came across such sentiments, some of them are victims of circumstances.

We should also blame failing social systems, if we had affordable schools, housing etc and favourable tax environment, there will be no need for excess loans. The most basic need like housing is being priced out of reach of many.
It's a really sad situation when a man feels he can no longer provide for his family. It's an open secret police are poorly paid .

good to show some respect to the dead,
This is an incredibly dumb and stupid belief that has been perpetuated, aren't these the same people who kill and maim the innocent and the weak? Aren't they the same who perpetuate the blue code of silence to protect their own? Aren't they the same who throw proffesionalism out the window when dealing with citizenry?
