This amazing Rift Valley town is getting the city status today.
I wonder what watu wa huko think about it...for one, it means elevated status and probably more funds and investments but on the flip side, higher land rates etc.

President Uhuru will on Wednesday confer City Status on Nakuru.
Speaking when he addressed the nation on Tuesday, Uhuru said Nakuru will become a City joining Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi.
“I will tomorrow have the high privilege of conferring to Nakuru Municipality the City Status. This is as a result of devolution,” he said.
“...and with their reputation as East Africa's cleanest town, all of Kenya looks forward to Nakuru city.”
The Urban Areas and Cities Act seeks to give effect to Article 184 of the Constitution which provides for classification, governance and management of urban areas and cities.
Before classification as a city, urban areas must have infrastructural facilities like roads, street lighting, markets, fire stations, waste disposal and disaster management capacity.
The Act indicates that they must also have integrated development plans and demonstrate capacity to generate sufficient revenue to sustain operations.
Earlier, Uhuru explained how the first Covid-19 stimulus package saved Kenya.
He said the stimulus package made the impact of Covid-19 on Kenya’s economy less severe.
In 2020, Uhuru outlined an eight-point economic stimulus programme to help keep the country afloat even as the coronavirus pandemic ravages lives globally.
Uhuru said the first element of the Sh53.7 billion package will focus on infrastructure.
“You can always revive an ailing economy but you cannot bring to life those who die from the pandemic,” Uhuru said during the address.
