By the way, once in a while I’ve heard some people argue that, in Kenya, the Samburu and Maasai are one people who found themselves split up by those colonial era ‘native reserves’. It’d be interesting to get the full history.

They have slight dialectical differences but they call themselves the Maa speakers. They include the Il Njemps and Laikipia Maasai.

Edit: And the Rendille are half Samburu and half Borana.
